Mahindra and Tata Motors Set to Launch 7 New Electric Cars in 2026: From XEV 9e to Sierra.EV

Electric vehicle adoption in India continues to gain momentum, and domestic manufacturers are playing a key role in accelerating this shift. Tata Motors and Mahindra, two of the strongest Indian players in the EV space, are preparing to significantly expand their electric portfolios in 2026. Together, the two brands are expected to introduce seven new electric vehicles, spanning mass-market, premium, and luxury segments.

From compact electric SUVs to flagship luxury EVs and long-range electric crossovers, the upcoming lineup reflects how quickly India’s EV landscape is evolving.

Tata Sierra EV: A Legendary Name Goes Electric

One of the most anticipated launches is the Tata Sierra EV. The Sierra nameplate recently made a successful comeback in ICE form, receiving over 70,000 bookings within 24 hours. Building on this momentum, Tata Motors is now preparing an all-electric version of the iconic SUV.

The Sierra EV will be based on an electrified version of Tata’s ARGOS platform, a flexible and modular architecture designed to support ICE, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains. For the Indian market, Tata is expected to offer the Sierra EV with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) setup from launch. Learnings from the Harrier.EV suggest growing demand for AWD electric SUVs, even in lower segments.

Visually, the Sierra EV will feature clear distinctions from its ICE sibling, including a closed-off EV grille, aero-optimised alloy wheels, and EV-specific detailing. While the cabin layout may resemble the ICE Sierra, unique trims, colour schemes, and materials are expected to set it apart.

Two battery options are likely—55 kWh and 65 kWh. The smaller pack may be sourced from the Curvv.EV, while the larger unit could be shared with the Harrier.EV. Official specifications are yet to be revealed.

Tata Punch EV Facelift: Subtle Updates Incoming

The Tata Punch EV has established itself as a strong performer in the compact electric SUV segment. Following recent updates to the ICE Punch, Tata is expected to introduce a facelifted Punch EV in 2026.

The update is likely to focus on cosmetic enhancements and feature additions, while retaining the existing 25 kWh and 35 kWh battery packs. Powertrain options are expected to remain unchanged, but refreshed styling and added tech could help the Punch EV stay competitive.

Tata Avinya: A New Luxury EV Identity

Tata’s most ambitious electric project is the Avinya, which will be positioned as a luxury EV brand rather than a conventional SUV. Instead of being a single model, Avinya will be a family of premium electric vehicles, featuring multiple body styles and sizes.

Built on Tata’s third-generation skateboard EV platform, derived from Jaguar Land Rover’s EMA architecture, the Avinya range will represent Tata’s EV flagship. Unlike other Tata models, Avinya vehicles will have no ICE counterparts. The first model is expected to launch toward the end of 2026.

Tata Safari EV: Electrifying a Familiar Name

Another important addition to Tata’s EV lineup will be the Safari EV. Expected to share its platform and powertrain with the outgoing Harrier EV, the Safari EV will offer a larger, three-row electric SUV option.

The model has already been spotted testing alongside the Sierra EV, and while details remain limited, its arrival will strengthen Tata’s presence in the midsize electric SUV space.

Tata Tiago EV Facelift: Minor Updates, Proven FormulaThe Tiago EV, India’s most affordable electric car, is also due for a facelift in 2026. This will be the second update since its launch in 2022.

Changes are expected to be subtle, including minor exterior tweaks, revised interior elements, and possibly an updated driver display. The Tiago EV will continue with its existing 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh battery options, offering claimed ranges of 223 km and 293 km, respectively.

Mahindra BE6 and XEV 9e: New 70 kWh Battery Option

Mahindra is also expanding its EV lineup with upgraded battery options. The BE6 and XEV 9e, both part of Mahindra’s “Electric Origin” range, have been performing well in the market. Soon, both models are expected to receive a new 70 kWh battery pack.

This battery, which debuted on the XEV 9S, offers a claimed range of up to 600 km per charge. Positioned between the existing 59 kWh and 79 kWh options, the new pack will allow Mahindra to better cater to customers seeking a balance between range and price.

Outlook for 2026

With five new EVs from Tata Motors and two from Mahindra, 2026 is shaping up to be a landmark year for India’s electric car market. From affordable urban EVs to luxury flagships and long-range SUVs, these launches highlight the growing maturity and ambition of homegrown manufacturers.
