Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has begun 2026 on a historic high, recording its highest-ever monthly domestic sales in January. The Korean automaker sold 59,107 units in the Indian market during the month, registering a healthy 9.5% year-on-year (YoY) growth. Alongside this domestic milestone, Hyundai also achieved its highest-ever total monthly sales, including exports, underlining its strong momentum both at home and abroad.
Hyundai’s total sales for January 2026 stood at 73,173 units, of which 14,030 units were exports. This resulted in an impressive 11.5% YoY growth in overall sales, highlighting the brand’s consistent performance across multiple segments and markets. Export volumes alone grew by a substantial 20.9% YoY, reinforcing Hyundai’s reputation as one of India’s leading automobile exporters.
Venue and Aura Lead the Growth Charge
A major contributor to Hyundai’s record-breaking performance was the strong showing of its compact and entry-level offerings. The Hyundai Venue emerged as a key growth driver, posting its highest-ever monthly sales of 12,413 units. The compact SUV continues to enjoy strong demand thanks to its wide engine lineup, feature-rich cabin, and strong brand recall in the highly competitive sub-4m SUV segment.
The Hyundai Aura also delivered an exceptional performance, achieving its best-ever monthly sales of 7,978 units. The compact sedan’s combination of refined engines, spacious interiors, and value-for-money positioning has helped it gain steady traction among urban and semi-urban buyers.
Creta Continues to Be Hyundai’s Flagbearer
While Venue and Aura drove incremental growth, the Hyundai Creta remained the brand’s top-selling nameplate. The mid-size SUV has consistently been a bestseller in its segment, thanks to its well-rounded package that includes multiple powertrain options, segment-leading features, premium interiors, and strong road presence. The Creta’s sustained popularity has played a pivotal role in Hyundai’s overall sales success in India.
In addition to the Creta, models such as the Exter, i20, and Grand i10 Nios also posted strong volumes, further strengthening Hyundai’s portfolio performance. The Exter, in particular, has found favour among first-time buyers and urban customers looking for a compact SUV with modern styling and practical features.
Strong Outlook with New Launches on the Horizon
Looking ahead, Hyundai has an aggressive product strategy lined up for the Indian market. The company is expected to introduce the Exter facelift and the Verna facelift later this year, aimed at refreshing its popular models with updated styling and features.
Another significant upcoming product is the Hyundai Bayon, a compact crossover that is likely to arrive in India by the end of 2026. Positioned between the Exter and the Venue, the Bayon is expected to strengthen Hyundai’s presence in the fast-growing compact crossover space.
Beyond conventional models, Hyundai has also laid out ambitious plans for alternative powertrains. The company has committed to launching eight new hybrid models in India by FY2030, with a strong focus on SUVs. This move aligns with growing customer interest in fuel-efficient and lower-emission mobility solutions.
The third-generation Hyundai Creta is also under development and is expected to go on sale sometime next year. In the electric vehicle space, Hyundai plans to introduce a new compact electric SUV in 2026, which is likely to be based on the Hyundai Inster EV sold in international markets. This model is expected to play a key role in expanding Hyundai’s EV footprint in India.
Leadership Speaks
Commenting on the milestone achievement, Mr. Tarun Garg, Managing Director & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Limited, said:

The remarkable 20.9% growth in exports to 14,030 units underscores the trust brand Hyundai continues to inspire across global markets.”

Hyundai’s record-breaking performance in January 2026 highlights its strong brand equity, diverse product lineup, and forward-looking strategy.
