Ather Energy Distributes 100 Ather Junior Helmets to Bengaluru Traffic Police to Promote Child Road Safety

Bengaluru: In a significant step toward improving road safety for young two-wheeler passengers, Ather Energy, one of India’s leading electric scooter manufacturers, has handed over 100 ISI-certified Ather Junior helmets to the Bengaluru Traffic Police. The initiative was conducted during National Road Safety Month and reflects Ather’s growing commitment to promoting safe riding habits from an early age.

The helmets will be distributed by Bengaluru Traffic Police across different areas of the city to raise awareness among parents and children about the importance of wearing protective gear while traveling on two-wheelers. With increasing urban traffic and rising accident statistics, such initiatives are becoming crucial in creating safer mobility ecosystems in India.

Rising Concern Over Two-Wheeler Road Accidents in India

Two-wheelers contribute to the highest share of road accident fatalities in the country. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Annual Report 2023, more than 54,500 riders and pillion passengers lost their lives in accidents due to not wearing helmets. This accounts for over 31 percent of total road fatalities nationwide.

A separate survey conducted by the Citizen Consumer and Civic Action Group (CAG) in July 2024 revealed that helmet usage among children remains alarmingly low. Many parents find it difficult to locate properly sized helmets for young passengers, while children often resist wearing standard helmets due to discomfort or lack of appeal. This gap in safety awareness makes children more vulnerable during accidents, as their physical and cognitive development is still in progress.

Ather Junior Helmet: Designed Specifically for Children

To address this safety gap, Ather Energy introduced the Ather Junior helmet range. These helmets are ISI-certified and specially designed for children aged between 3 and 9 years. They come in multiple size options to ensure a comfortable and secure fit, helping parents avoid the risks associated with oversized or loose helmets.

The helmets are available in three attractive variants – Astro, Big Bee, and Unicorn – featuring bright colors and playful designs that appeal to children. By making helmets visually engaging, Ather aims to encourage kids to wear protective gear willingly, helping build long-term safety habits from an early age.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), wearing a proper helmet can reduce the risk of death by more than six times and lower the chances of brain injury by up to 74 percent. These statistics highlight the critical importance of helmet adoption, especially for young pillion riders.

Ather Energy’s Vision for Safer Mobility

Speaking on the initiative, Saurabh Sharma, Head of Marketing at Ather Energy, emphasized the company’s focus on safety innovation. He stated that safety has always been a core value at Ather, and the Ather Junior helmets extend that commitment to children who travel as pillion riders.

The company aims to create awareness around child safety while encouraging families to adopt responsible riding practices. Ather also plans to continue expanding the Ather Junior product line with more child-focused safety solutions in the future.

Advanced Safety Features in Ather Electric Scooters

Beyond helmets, Ather Energy integrates several advanced safety technologies across its electric scooter lineup. One of the key features is FallSafe™, which automatically cuts off power if the scooter detects a fall, reducing the risk of further damage or injury.

Another important feature is SkidControl™, designed to prevent wheel slip on uneven or wet surfaces. This improves rider stability and minimizes the chances of skidding during sudden braking or sharp turns. Ather also offers Multi-Mode Traction Control, which adjusts traction levels based on different riding modes for enhanced control and safety.

Additionally, safety and security features such as Crash Alerts automatically notify emergency contacts in case of a severe impact. Live Location Sharing, remote vehicle control, and ParkSafe™ further enhance theft protection and rider peace of mind.

Strengthening Road Safety Awareness in Urban India

The collaboration between Ather Energy and Bengaluru Traffic Police represents a proactive approach toward improving road safety awareness among families and young commuters. By making child-specific helmets more accessible and promoting their usage through official channels, the initiative sets a positive example for other cities to follow.

As electric mobility continues to grow in India, manufacturers like Ather are not only focusing on performance and sustainability but also prioritizing rider safety and community responsibility. Encouraging helmet usage among children today can significantly reduce accident-related injuries in the future and create a culture of responsible road behavior.

With initiatives like this, Ather Energy is reinforcing its role as a responsible mobility brand while contributing to safer roads and healthier communities across India.
